003. Icarus is expecting company. [Sep. 14th, 2009|04:23 am]
I know it hasn't been too long since I last posted, but I have an etiquette question, and I figured I might as well pose it here as anywhere.

One of my brothers is coming to visit New York for a few days in October. He asked if I could put him up during his stay, and I said yes. This is not the problem, there will always be room. The problem is, it'll be better for everyone involved if he doesn't meet my roommate. My roommate's got a few friends who'd put him up for a few nights. He could even stay over at his boyfriend's. It's not my problem where he goes, I just need him out.

My question is, how do I ask him to stay away for a few days without coming across as a jerk? I already told him my brother was coming and that I didn't think he and my brother would get along. He doesn't think it'll be a problem.

002. Baby, remember Icarus's name. [Sep. 4th, 2009|04:27 pm]
For all those interested, the casting for New York City Opera's '09-'10 Season is up, and has been for about two weeks now. It's a shorter season than usual, but it's lucky there's even a season at all. I don't know if any of you follow opera politics, but my union was threatening to strike. Really glad we didn't, since there's a lot of great stuff planned. I sang in a preview of some of the planned material in Westhampton last weekend, and I can tell you that American Voices won't be one to miss, for one. They're bringing in some great singers for it.

I'm not in anything in the fall, but I'll be in the second casting of Puccini's Madama Butterfly in April, following Steven Harrison's run as Pinkerton. I'll be his understudy too. It's real exciting, but still hasn't completely sunk in.

Just out of curiosity, I have an unrelated question. Who else here has a comic character who's dead?

001. Icarus talks about the weather. [Aug. 19th, 2009|09:21 pm]
How is everyone? Barely tolerating the weather? Lately, I've heard plenty of complaints about the heat and humidity, but these days I'm spending too much time indoors practicing for auditions to get a real sense of it.

By the way, for anyone who likes film, the African Diaspora Summer Film Series at Riverside Church kicks off on Friday with Gospel Hill. All the films in the series are great, and I'm sure it'll be a fun time all around for whoever's interested in showing up. As always, event proceeds go to ministry works.

Edit: I almost forgot! I saw this fantastic article in the Times the other day about how Ted Olson made the decision to take the same-sex marriage case. It's worth a read. Makes you think.
